DJ and Gunner
My first day of boot camp was 9/11/02. I joined the Navy straight out of high school and got thrown out into the big world. My first assignment was the USS TARAWA which I was crew of till '05 when I switched commands to COMPHIBRON 1. In 2007 I volunteered for orders that took me to the combat zones of Iraq. I was in theater for over a year before returning home and taking on my next assignment at Cheyenne Mountain working for USSTRATCOM. I transferred from there in 2012 to my new ship the USS SOMERSET. During my time aboard, I was issued my second set of orders that would take me to combat related areas. I returned back to the USS SOMERSET in 2014 where I began having problems. Over the next year I had multiple suicide attempts and relationship issues.
I was officially diagnosed with PTSD, Severe Recurring Depression and Acute Agoraphobia in 2015. After seeking treatment I was Medically Discharged from the Navy July 1st 2016. After moving back home to reside with my family, my mom found Lane Logan Memorial. They paired me with Gunner, my Black Lab, Aug of 2016. With my mom and Gunner's help I began the recovery process. Everyday is a struggle, but with Gunner, my mom and the Lane Logan Memorial Team I'm making it. They have become more like family to me and aid in my support network. I love you guys, Mom and of course Gunner. I don't think I would be here without you.
